I understand why some people dislike this book upon reading it presently, but I think it is wrong to apply 2020s American morals to a 1991 Japanese (translated!) novel. This book was the type to fly through, because you never realized you just ate up 100 pages because you were having too much fun. Spooky and mysterious, it read as a perfect mystery novel that still gave me some surprises even after seeing and knowing the movie Ringu (1997). I'm really excited to see what the rest of the series holds!

World War Z

What a great audiobook cast! I did find myself a little zoned out in the middle of this book based on the short chapters that could range from emotional to gory to highly military technical, but overall the voice acting was really strong and did keep me in a lot of parts. I loved the world building that often gets overlooked in the highly focused apocalypse books like the vernacular and cultural shifts that come during and after big moments in history, it felt like a really interesting sociological study in that way!

The World In Flames

This book was kind of interestingly fast-paced and slow-paced at the same time, but I appreciated how he reflected on his childhood memories acknowledging that sometimes the way you see the world as a child is not the way that the world really is. I'm glad I was able to read though, it had been on my list for a long time!

The Long Walk

While maybe not my favorite SK book, I really enjoyed this as compared to something like the Hunger Games. A misinformed competition that is treated like a badge of honor but all it yields is trauma and tragedy. The exploration of why and how the contestants all got there and the raw horrors of the loss one by one was almost more of a philosophical exploration than thriller/horror novel. Excited to see the movie when it comes out!

This was such a fun book! I loved other books in this Meant to Be series so I was really excited for the Mulan story. Despite the secondhand embarrassment, it was so funny and a really sweet love story, it was amazing! I'll definitely have to finish out the rest in this series

Empire Of Pain

Yet again, another home run from Patrick Radden Keefe. Another book of his that i just could not put down and now will never see the world the same! Delightful to read a book like this up against the backdrop of New York, reflecting on the worlds of "Sackler" that I've wandered through without ever knowing the name. After finishing this book, I called up a friend who works in cancer research to discuss Big Pharma, because this book brought so much to my attention that I had no idea about, like patents, copyrighting, and naming of drugs to monopolize the market. Been recommending this book to anyone who will listen!

This was a really incredible novel, it built a really amazing universe in such a short time! I thought the monsters were incredible and terrifying, and the final battle was blockbuster worthy. I think this would make an incredible movie or limited series! So glad I bought a digital copy on Libro.FM so I can revisit this again and again!

This was a really beautiful story, and even though one of my best friends is Nigerian, I found myself learning some really fun new things about Nigerian culture from the setting of this book. Tragic, but a really well written depiction of grief.

I don't read a lot of mystery but this was so interesting and so gripping! A perfect interaction of supernatural, historical fiction, and contemporary topics that it made a really fantastical story that you so desperately wanted to know the ending all the way through. And a very satisfying ending at that!! Maybe I'll have to pick up more mystery next time I'm at the library

This is an ebook that provides a very simple, straightforward, and positive approach to managing finances when you have ADHD. It's written by Kyrus Keenan Westcott, a content creator on Instagram who also has ADHD. His words and advice made me feel seen and realize that I'm not inherently bad simply because I struggle with money; I just need to utilize methods and tools that work with my neurodivergency, not against it. For anyone struggling with money due to ADHD, I highly recommend this!
